In the beginning of the fifteenth century Filippo Brunelleschi and Donatello's creations marked the starting point of a new era, the Renaissance, in architecture and art in general. The Bargello Museum offers a complete journey through the art of sculpture leading the visitor from the early Renaissance in Florence to the masterpieces of Michelangelo and Cellini continuing with later production of artists such as Giambologna.
The altarpieces in the Uffizi Gallery attest to how, after the Gothic period, the painting style was modernized by Masaccio during the first decades of the 1400s: thanks to the Medici patronage, artists such as Filippo Lippi and Sandro Botticelli created an ideal view of humanity, linked to the ancient classical world that was being rediscovered by the entire court of Lorenzo the Magnificent. At the turn of the century, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael's works were going to mark the passage from Humanism to High Renaissance.
