Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and the famous St. Peter

Tour Code: R2

Get the most of Rome in a group tour: Vatican Museums, the magic atmosphere of the Sistine Chapel and a guided visit inside the most relevant catholic church in the world: St. Peter.

This delightful experience in the Eternal city starts with the several masterpieces of the Vatican Museums: in these galleries are housed many important works of art from the Egyptian Age to late Renaissance: ancient statues such as the Laocoon, the Apollo Belvedere and the Torso del Belvedere are hosted here.

After the museum we will visit the Room of the Segnatura (originally the personal library and office of Pope Julius II), the Room of Helidorus, the one of the Fire in the Borgo and the Hall of Constantine. You will get the chance to admire the frescoes made by Raphael, a “must to see” in the Italian Capital.

The next stop is in the Sistine Chapel, an unbelievable mix of paintings by glorious artists, such as Botticelli, Perugino, Ghirlandaio and, naturally, Michelangelo. Admiring the creation of Adam or the Judgement day made by Buonarroti, means to live a strong emotion. Because no talking is allowed in the building, the guide will explain outside the history and the hidden meaning of the fresco you will see inside.

Finally you will enter in St. Peter's. Our expert will start with an explanation of the architecture and the fascinating external details. Upon entering, the group will stop at Michelangelo’s Pietà. His only signed work, Michelangelo sculpted this beautiful marble statue when he was only 25 years old.

The last stop is at Bernini’s Baldacchino. Made in the 17th century, this huge bronze sculpture stands above the high altar. At the completion of the tour, visitors are free to further explore the Basilica on their own, but they cannot return to the Museum.
