Description:
In the early fifteenth century Filippo Brunelleschi and Donatello's creations marked the beginning of the Renaissance in architecture and sculpture. The Bargello museum offers a complete journey through the art of sculpture leading the visitor from the early Renaissance to the masterpieces of Michelangelo and Cellini and the later ‘virtuoso’ production of Giambologna in the late Cinquecento.

The altarpieces in the Uffizi Gallery attest to how after the Gothic period, the style of painting was modernised by Masaccio during the first decades of the 1400s: thanks to Medici patronage, later artists such as Filippo Lippi and Sandro Botticelli created an ideal view of humanity, linked to the ancient classical world that was being rediscovered by scholars and artists of the court of Lorenzo the Magnificent. At the turn of the century Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael's masterpieces were going to mark the passage from Humanism to High Renaissance.
